Timber Grace Wall Light

A single-light wall sconce built on a tall turned wooden baluster, with a black iron arm scrolling out from the middle to a candle holder. The wood is left with its grain and knots showing under a distressed wash, so each piece looks used rather than new.

Three finishes, three shades

This design is made to be specified rather than bought off the shelf. The baluster comes in three distressed finishes and the bulb can be supplied in three styles, which between them change the character of the piece completely.

• Antique white (distressed) — pale and chalky, for neutral and coastal rooms
• Antique brown (distressed) — warm, for wood-panelled and farmhouse interiors
• Antique grey (distressed) — cool and muted, for contemporary rooms

Bulb options are clear filament, which keeps the visible element sharp and suits an industrial look; frosted, which softens the light for a bedroom; and bevelled, which adds a little sparkle.

Why a baluster

The body of this sconce is a turned baluster, the same form used for staircase spindles, and that is not an accident. It is a shape that reads as architectural rather than decorative, which is why it sits comfortably on a stair wall or in a hallway where a floral or carved sconce would look applied. The iron arm is deliberately plain and dark against it.

Using it in a run

Single-light and narrow, this design is usually ordered in multiples. Along a corridor, space them 240 to 300 cm apart at a mounting height of 165 to 175 cm. Ask for a matched set and we finish them together so the distressing is consistent across every piece.
