Do you make the lighting yourselves, or buy it in?
We make it. Wooden Emporium is a manufacturing workshop in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh — not a reseller, importer or drop-shipper. Every chandelier, wall sconce, floor lamp and table lamp is cut, carved, forged, assembled and finished by our own craftsmen and shipped to you direct. More about the workshop.
What are the fixtures actually made of?
Wood and iron. Glass shades, crystal drops and brass-finished fittings appear where a design calls for them, but the body of the piece — everything that carries load and everything you look at — is solid seasoned hardwood, wrought iron, or both. No resin, no polyresin, no pressed aluminium.
Most of the ironwork is hand-forged: solid bar heated and shaped by hand, so the scrolls are bent and the leaves hammered one at a time. Where a design repeats a detail identically — matched leaf mounts, bobeches, finials — those parts are cast, because that is the right process for a repeated component. Forged and cast parts are then assembled and finished together by hand.
Can I have a piece made in a custom size?
Yes. Most of what we build is made to order, so almost anything in the catalogue can be rebuilt to your numbers: diameter, height, arm span, light count, chain or rod drop, wood tone and iron finish. Send the room dimensions and ceiling height, or a reference photo or drawing, and we will tell you whether we can make it, what it will cost and how long it will take.
What size chandelier do I need for my room?
As a starting point, add the room's length and width in feet and treat that number as the fixture diameter in inches — a 14 ft x 16 ft room suits roughly a 30 in chandelier. Over a dining table, the fixture should be about half to two-thirds the table's width, never wider than the table itself. How high should a chandelier hang?
Over a dining table, 30 to 36 inches from the tabletop to the bottom of the fixture. In an open room with a standard ceiling, keep at least 7 feet of clear headroom underneath. In a double-height space or a stairwell the piece is usually hung so its centre sits level with the upper floor. The sizing guide has the measurements set out room by room.
Which bulbs do your fixtures take?
All fixtures are wired for 220-240V and use E14 candle-base or E27 standard-base lamp holders, so they take bulbs sold in any shop in India. We recommend warm white, around 2700K — cool white flattens wood grain to grey and makes an antique iron finish look like painted steel. Each product page lists the holder type and light count for that design.
Are they dimmable?
The fixture does not limit it. Because the holders are standard E14 and E27, you can dim any of our pieces by fitting dimmable LED bulbs and a dimmer switch rated for LED loads. Dimming a chandelier to about 60 percent is what makes forged iron and carved wood throw shadow properly.
Wooden or wrought iron — which should I choose?
Iron suits humid coastal air, large spans and heavy statement pieces; wood suits warm interiors, lower ceilings and rooms where you want the fixture to feel soft rather than architectural. How heavy are they, and what does my ceiling need?
A large tiered chandelier is genuinely heavy, and a false ceiling or plasterboard will not hold one. The load has to reach the structural slab or a beam, through a hook or plate rated well above the fixture weight. Each product page states the weight so your electrician can plan before the piece arrives. Our installation guide lists exactly what to tell them.
Will a large chandelier fit through my door?
Yes. Large chandeliers are built to fold for transit, so the arms come in close to the stem and the piece clears ordinary doorways, lifts and stairwells. It is opened out and locked into position on site.
How long does an order take?
Ready designs normally dispatch in 1-2 weeks. Custom and bulk orders take 2-4 weeks depending on the design. If a date matters to you — a wedding, a handover, an opening — tell us before you order and we will say plainly whether it is possible.
Do you ship outside India?
We ship across India and to selected international destinations. Large pieces are crated for transit. Write to us with the delivery city and the design you are looking at and we will confirm whether we can reach you and what carriage will cost.
Do you take bulk and project orders?
Yes — we work regularly with architects, interior designers, builders, furniture retailers and hospitality projects. Hotels, resorts, restaurants, banquet halls and temples are a large part of what leaves the workshop. Send the quantity, the ceiling heights and the finish you want and we will quote the build. Can you match a set across several rooms?
Yes. Because every piece is made rather than picked off a shelf, a chandelier, matching wall sconces and a table lamp can be built in the same wood tone and the same iron finish, in the same run, so they age together. Ask for a matched set when you send your enquiry.
How do I clean and look after it?
Dry dusting, a soft brush into the carving, and no household sprays on an antique or waxed finish. Crystal comes up with a barely damp cloth, dried immediately. Most pieces can be cleaned in place without taking them down — here is how.
Can I visit the workshop?
You are welcome to. We are at Habib Garh, Doon Palace, Saharanpur 247001, Uttar Pradesh (Google Maps plus code XGMF+R5 Saharanpur), open Saturday to Thursday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and closed on Friday.
