Rustic Haven Two-Tier Chandelier

A two-tier wagon-wheel chandelier in solid wood, carrying eighteen candle lights around carved rings. At 80 cm across and 100 cm tall it is built for scale, and the carved detail running around each tier is what separates it from the plain plank-and-rope wheel chandeliers this style is usually reduced to.

Carved rings, not cut planks

The easy way to build a wheel chandelier is to cut a circle out of board and bolt arms to it. This one is built properly: each ring is made from solid wood worked around the curve, then hand-carved with a repeating panel motif around the full circumference, inside and out. The metal parts are mild steel, powder coated in a light brown that matches the wood rather than contrasting with it, so the structure stays quiet and the carving carries the piece.

Weight and fixing, read this first

At 15 to 18 kg this is a heavy fixture and the single most important thing about installing it. It must be fixed to a structural ceiling point, never to a false ceiling, plasterboard or a plain junction box. Have an electrician confirm the fixing before the chandelier arrives. The 18 light points also draw more than a standard room circuit is often wired for, so check that too.

Living with solid wood

Solid wood moves with humidity. Small hairline movement at the joints over the first season is normal as the piece settles into your climate, and is not a defect. Keep it out of direct air-conditioning flow and away from direct sunlight.
