Hawthorne Manor Lamp

A 76 cm table lamp with a turned wooden column on a square footed base, finished in distressed antique with gold showing through the wear, under a 35 cm natural beige drum shade. At 76 cm this is one of the tallest table lamps we make.

A square base under a round column

The column is turned, so it is round. The base is square with carved feet at the corners. Putting the two together is a deliberate choice from classical furniture: the square foot gives the lamp a defined front, so it sits properly against a wall or centred on a console, where a round base would let it drift. It also widens the footprint at the floor, which matters on a lamp standing 76 cm tall.

Distressing that shows gold

The finish is worked back at the turned collars, the base edges and the carved feet, exposing a warm gold beneath the antique surface. Those are exactly the points a piece of furniture wears through first, which is why it reads as age rather than as an effect. Each lamp is finished by hand, so the wear pattern differs between them.

Where this lamp works best

Check the table height first

This is a tall lamp on a narrow 15 cm base. On a standard 75 cm console the shade will sit at about 150 cm, which is above standing eye level and correct. On a low side table beside a sofa it works well. On a bedside table it will be too tall and the bulb will glare at seated height. Measure before ordering, and tell us the surface height if you want us to adjust it.

Care

Dust with a soft dry cloth along the turning and a brush around the carved feet. Do not use water, polish or wax on the distressed finish, as it will darken the gold-worn edges unevenly. Brush or vacuum the shade on low suction.
