Woodland Tulip Wall Light

A frosted glass tulip on a hand-forged iron stem, mounted to a solid wood backplate. Three materials in one small fixture: wood, iron and glass, which is what makes it read warmer than an all-metal sconce. 16 inches tall, projecting 7.5 inches from the wall.

Three materials, one piece

The shade is frosted glass, shaped as a tulip with the petal edges left slightly open at the top, so the light comes out soft rather than as a hotspot. The stem and leaves are forged iron in an antique finish, curving up from a ball foot and set with leaves at three points. The backplate is solid wood with a natural finish, 5 inches across, which keeps the mounting discreet against the wall.

Where this wall light works best

• Narrow walls and spaces between doorways. Only 7.5 inches wide.
• Bedside, in pairs. The frosted glass means no glare at reading distance.
• Hallways and staircases. Mount in a run along the wall.
• Dressing areas. Dry indoor locations only.

Choosing a bulb

This fixture takes a standard E27 bulb up to 40W. A warm white LED at 2700K to 3000K gives the frosted glass the amber glow shown in the photographs. A cool white bulb will make the tulip shade look grey, so it is worth avoiding.
