Willow Heritage Table Lamp

A 55 cm table lamp with a turned solid wood body in a natural finish, shaped as a baluster with a heavy lower bulb, under a 35 cm linen shade. Nothing is painted, carved or distressed: the wood is finished clear so the grain is the only decoration.

Natural finish, so the timber has to be good

A clear finish hides nothing. Every knot, colour change and grain line stays visible, which means the timber has to be selected before it is turned rather than corrected afterwards with paint or stain. That is why a natural-finish lamp is harder to produce consistently than a distressed one: on a painted piece, variation is character; on a clear-finished piece, it is the whole product, and pieces have to be chosen to match if you want a pair.

Weight low, shade wide

The heaviest part of the turning sits near the bottom, and the 35 cm shade is wide for a 55 cm lamp. Both are deliberate. A low centre of mass on a 15 cm base keeps a table lamp stable, and a wide shade throws light outward across a surface rather than straight down, which suits a bedside or a desk where you want the whole area lit rather than one pool.

Ordering a pair

With a natural finish, two lamps turned from different boards will differ in grain and tone. If you want a matched pair, say so when you order and we will turn both from the same timber. It is the only way to get them close, and it is worth asking for, because a mismatched pair on either side of a bed is noticeable.

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth along the grain. A natural finish tolerates an occasional barely damp wipe, dried immediately. Keep the lamp out of direct sunlight, which darkens untreated wood unevenly, and away from moisture. Brush or vacuum the linen shade on low suction.
