Vintage Ivory & Gold Iron Double Arm Wall Light

A carved ivory backplate with a hand-painted antique finish, carrying two iron arms that sweep down and out to gold tassel drops. The combination of a pale carved panel with dark metal arms is unusual, and it is what makes this sconce work in rooms where an all-iron piece would feel heavy.

The backplate does the work

On most wall sconces the backplate is functional and the arms carry the design. Here it is reversed. The panel is carved with a leaf and shell motif, then given a distressed ivory finish that lets the darker ground show through at the edges, so it reads as an old architectural fragment rather than a new fitting. The iron arms are deliberately plain against it, curving down in a simple U so they frame the panel instead of competing with it.

A note on the distressed finish

The ivory finish is distressed on purpose, so small variations in the wear pattern are part of the design and not a fault. Each panel is finished by hand, which means two pieces will never be identical. If you are ordering a pair, we make them together so the distressing is balanced across both.

Care

Dust the carved panel with a soft dry brush. Do not use water or cleaning fluid on the distressed finish, as it will lift the paint at the worn edges.
