Nordic Wood Flame Light

A single-light wall sconce with an oval wooden backplate and a turned candle column mounted flat against it. The whole piece sits close to the wall, which is unusual in this collection: there is no projecting arm, so it works in a corridor or beside a door where a standard sconce would be in the way.

Flat to the wall, by design

Most sconces push the light source out from the wall on an arm. This one does not. The turned column is fixed directly onto the oval backplate, so the whole fixture sits shallow and the light washes up and down the wall rather than out into the room. That makes it a practical choice for narrow spaces, and it is also why it reads as a piece of wall furniture rather than a lamp.

Distressed, not painted

The whitewash on this piece is worked back after it is applied, so the wood grain and the turning show through and the colour sits lighter on the raised edges. That is what stops a pale wooden fixture looking flat, and because it is done by hand the wear pattern differs between pieces.

Where this sconce works best

• Narrow corridors and hallways. The shallow profile is the reason to choose it.
• Beside a doorway or in a stairwell.
• Bedrooms, mounted as a pair either side of a bed.
• Hotels and guest rooms. Matched sets are manufactured to order.

Using it in a run

Single-light, shallow and narrow, this design suits a series rather than a single piece. Along a corridor, space them 240 to 300 cm apart at a mounting height of 165 to 175 cm. Ask for a matched set and we finish them together so the distressing is consistent across every unit.

Care

Dust with a soft dry brush or cloth. Do not use water, polish or wax on the distressed whitewash, as it will darken the worn edges unevenly.
