Imperial Flora Wall Light

Two candle arms curve up and outward from a rosette backplate, with a leafed stem rising between them and small crystal buds set at the tips. Finished in antique brass, it is wider than it is tall at 44 by 40 cm, which makes it a good fit above a headboard or a mirror.

Crystal buds where flowers would be

The detail that makes this piece is at the very top. Instead of finishing the stem with metal flowers, the buds are cut crystal, set into forged calyxes so they catch the light from the two bulbs below. Because they sit above the light source rather than beside it, they pick up the glow from underneath and read as small points of light in their own right once the sconce is switched on. In daylight they are nearly clear, so the piece looks quite different lit and unlit.

Why the bulb choice matters here

An LED filament bulb is recommended for a reason. The crystal buds need a small, bright point of light to refract properly. A frosted or opal bulb spreads the light before it reaches them, and the crystals stop sparkling entirely. A clear filament bulb at 2700K to 3000K gives both the warm tone for the antique brass and the point source the crystal needs.
