Hand-Made French Wrought Iron Chandelier

Skilled artisans hand-forge every curve of this chandelier, finished in a rich dark antique bronze that plays well against warm bulb light. The ornamental scrollwork is more pronounced than on the other French pieces in this collection, which makes it the choice when you want the metalwork itself to be the feature.

Scrollwork is where the hours go

Scrollwork of this density is slow work. Each curl is drawn out and rolled at the forge, then set into the frame so the spacing stays even as the piece opens out. Machine-made scroll comes out uniform and flat. Forged scroll varies in thickness from the root to the tip, which is what catches light along the curve and gives the chandelier depth from across a room. The antique bronze patina is rubbed back by hand so the raised curls sit lighter than the ground behind them.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth, working into the scrollwork with a soft brush if needed. Avoid chemical polish on the patina.
