Three candle arms rising from a domed rosette backplate, with acanthus leaves set along the outer arms and scrolled tails curling below. Finished in antique gold with hand-painted detailing, it measures 46 cm wide by 43 cm tall, which makes it one of the larger sconces in this collection.

Three lights, classically arranged

The centre arm rises straight while the two outer arms sweep wide and drop into scrolls, so the three candles sit at different heights and the piece reads as a small chandelier rather than a flat sconce. Acanthus leaves are set where the arms leave the backplate, which is the traditional place for them, and the rosette at the centre is domed rather than flat so it catches light from the bulbs above.

Check the projection before mounting

This sconce stands 20 cm out from the wall, so it needs a clear run. Avoid narrow corridors where people pass close to the wall, and keep it out of the swing path of a door. Mount the centre 165 to 175 cm from the floor for general lighting.

Care

Dust with a dry, soft cloth, using a soft brush around the acanthus leaves and rosette. Avoid chemical polish, which will lift the hand-painted detailing.
