Blackwood Royale Chandelier

A deep black metal frame gives this chandelier its architectural presence, with each arm detailed by hand into a sculptural, contemporary silhouette. At 85 cm tall and 70 cm wide it is a substantial piece, but the open scrollwork keeps it from feeling heavy in the room.

Minimal, but not plain

The restraint here is deliberate. There is no gilding, no patina and no colour, so what you are left with is line: the sweep of each arm, the spacing between them, and the way the scrolls answer each other around the central column. Antique leaf detailing sits at the arm joints as the only ornament. That is a harder thing to get right than a heavily decorated piece, because there is nothing to hide an uneven curve behind.

Proportion and hanging

At 85 cm tall this is a vertical piece rather than a wide one, so it needs height more than floor area. Allow at least 2.1 m clearance from the floor to the lowest point in any walkway. Over a dining table, hang it so the lowest point sits 75 to 85 cm above the table top. At 5.2 kg it fixes to a standard ceiling point.
